Boise, ID – May 31, 2024 –Engineering firm HDR donated the materials and labor to construct hygiene kits for local victim services nonprofit Faces of Hope.

Access to basic hygiene supplies like soap, toothpaste, menstrual products, and deodorant helps survivors feel clean and cared for during a challenging time, promoting both physical and mental health. These items can also restore a sense of normalcy and self-worth, empowering survivors to take the first steps toward rebuilding their lives. In emergency situations, such as when fleeing abusive environments, having immediate access to hygiene products can significantly alleviate stress, especially for those with children, and improve the quality of life of those in crisis.

“When I learned about Faces of Hope, I was excited to apply for a grant from my company’s charitable program, the HDR Foundation,” said Kady Vasquez, Bridge Engineer. “After purchasing the materials with the awarded grant, a group of my amazing coworkers volunteered to help assemble 60 hygiene kits that will make a tangible impact on the lives of the clients that Faces of Hope serves. I hope to apply for and win more grants in the future to continue to make a positive impact on our community with Faces of Hope!”

On May 9, 2024, HDR staff gathered after work hours to construct 60 hygiene kits in a high-quality canvas tote bag. These reusable bags provide a durable means for survivors to carry essentials as they move between places to stay and appointments.

“Symbolically, these bags can represent a fresh start and a step toward independence and self-sufficiency for the people who seek out our services,” said Paige Dinger, Executive Director. “If your business or club is interested in holding your own hygiene kit drive and packing party, you can reach out to Angela Lamb, Development Officer, or visit our website to learn more.”
